Etobicoke is an administrative district and one of six municipalities merged into Toronto, Ontario. Etobicoke, which comprises the west end of the city, was settled by first Europeans in the 1790s; the municipality became a city in the 20th century. Several independent villages and towns developed and became part of Metropolitan Toronto in 1954. In 1998, its city status and government were dissolved after it merged into present-day Toronto. Etobicoke is bordered to the south by Lake Ontario, to the east by the Humber River, to the west by Etobicoke Creek, the city of Mississauga, and Toronto Pearson International Airport (a small portion of the airport extends to Etobicoke), and to the north by Steeles Avenue West.
Etobicoke has a highly diversified population, which amounted to 365,143 in 2016. It is primarily suburban development and highly industrialized, resulting in a lower population density than Toronto's other boroughs. Much of its urban landscape is characterized by larger main streets, shopping malls, and cul-de-sacs. Etobicoke has several highways, including the 427, 401, 409, Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), and Gardiner Expressway. Etobicoke is the western terminus of the Toronto Subway's Bloor-Danforth Line 2 and has four GO Transit commuter rail stations. Humber College is in Etobicoke and spans two campuses, one of which is also home to Guelph-Humber. Wherever you may be in Etobicoke, we have a convenient location for your car rental.
