The second-largest airport in France after CDG and Orly in Paris, Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (as it is officially known) is a busy, ultra-modern air transportation facility and a major hub for people visiting the south of France. Some 14 million aviation passengers pass through its gates every year, travelling to and from more than 120 direct destinations in 45 different countries on flights operated by approximately 60 airlines. Other than Paris, it is also the only French airport to offer 13 regular long-haul flights to places as far and wide as Atlanta, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, Kuwait, New York, Montreal and Riyadh, and the only company to accommodate daily flights of the A380. Located just 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the city center, Nice Airport has two large terminal buildings (Terminal 1 and Terminal 2) as well as a smaller Business Aviation Terminal.
The biggest and most vibrant tourist destination on France's sunny Mediterranean coast, Nice continues to woo a growing number of discerning travelers with its year-round temperate climate and upmarket bistros and restaurants. The city's charming Old Town is a wonderland of first-rate museums (most notably the Musée Matisse, Musée Chagall, Musée d'Art Contemporain and Musée des Beaux Arts), architectural treasures (the Palais Masséna is a particular delight) and many fine Baroque churches. Picking up your car rental at Nice Airport gives you the chance to discover the city and all its attractions at your own pace before exploring the rest of the Côte d'Azur in total comfort. There are so many interesting towns to visit in this part of France, such as Cannes (famous for its annual film festival), Antibes (one of the oldest places in the region) and the Principality of Monaco where its long list of top attractions includes the glitzy casino of Monte Carlo, the 15th-century Palais Princier and the unmissable Musée Océanographique where the renowned marine explorer Jacques Cousteau had his base.
