The Tenerife South Airport, which is sometimes called the Reina Sofia Airport, is the busier of the two international airports located on the island of Tenerife, the other facility being the Tenerife North Airport. The airport was dedicated to Queen Sofia of Spain in November 1978. The facility handled just over 8.6 million passengers who were traveling to and from the Canary Islands last year and also functions as a hub for low cost carrier Ryanair.
