    Driving Overview

    General Information
    A car rental from Auto Europe in Denmark is the only way to make the very most of your Danish vacation! Start your adventure at the world famous Legoland then make your way to the bustling city streets of magnificent Copenhagen! Whatever it is you plan to do while in Denmark allow Auto Europe to make it all the more convenient. Before you go please take a look at the information below pertaining to driving and renting a vehicle in Europe.

    Driving in DenmarkRequirements
    To rent a car in Denmark you are required to be at least 21 years old and have held your drivers license for a minimum of 1 year. Some suppliers may impose a maximum age limit of 69. If you are traveling with children under the age of 6 years old is required to sit in the back seat of the vehicle in a child seat or booster seat, which ever is more appropriate to their size. All other vehicle occupants that are older then 6 years must wear a seatbelt at all times. Headlights must be turned on 24 hours a day and fog lights can only be on during bad weather. It is illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving in Denmark, those who fail to oblige may be subject to high fines.

    Speed Limits
    The following are the standard legal speed limits in Denmark: city 50 km/h, major roads/open roads 80 km/h and 110 km/h to 130 km/h on the highway.

    Rules of the Road
    Vehicles in Denmark travel on the right side of the road only and pass on the left. Buses always have the right of way and a line of white triangles painted across the road mean you are required to give way.

    Gas & Diesel
    Gas stations in large Danish cities are generally open 24 hours a day all other stations usually close around 10pm. The cost for regular unleaded gas is about $6.95 CAD per gallon with diesel costing a little less at $6.35 CAD per gallon.

    Tolls
    In Denmark you will be required to pay a toll if crossing the Storbæltbroen Bridge that connects Zealand and Funun and when crossing the Øresundbroen Bridge that connects Copenhagen and Malmo. The amount of the toll is about $33-45 CAD one-way.

    Parking
    Metered parking is very popular throughout the larger cities in Denmark and is usually limited to a 2-hour maximum. Parking discs are also frequently used in Denmark; discs can be purchased at gas stations, post offices and banks.

    Insurance Information

    Car Rental Insurance in DenmarkGeneral Information
    You never know what is going to happen when you rent a vehicle especially if your renting in a country you have never driven in. This is why Auto Europe highly recommends learning as much as possible about what insurances are required and what other options are available to you. Below you will learn the insurance regulations pertaining to vehicle rentals in Denmark. If you are renting a vehicle in Denmark the insurance guidelines of Denmark will be in effect for the entire duration of your rental, even if it is returned to different country. Insurance details that are specific to your rental can be found in the terms and conditions sections of your rental voucher.

    Required Coverage
    For car rentals commencing in Denmark it is required for it to have third party liability insurance coverage. Auto Europe includes this form of insurance on all basic rental rates in Denmark. The amount of coverage can range from about $17,000,000 up to an unlimited amount of coverage depending on the rental supplier. If you are 23-24 years old some suppliers will apply a deductible of about $200 CAD on the third party liability. Fire insurance is usually included on all basic rental rates in Denmark unless otherwise noted. If fire insurance is included it usually provides and unlimited amount of coverage to the vehicle in the event it is damaged due to a fire.

    Optional Coverage
    In Denmark collision damage waiver and theft protection are option on car rentals. Auto Europe gives you the option to purchase these insurances ahead of time at an advance purchase discount by offering them on all inclusive rental rates in Denmark. CDW is available locally for approximately $29 to $44 CAD per day depending on what category you are renting. Theft is also offered locally and can cost about $9 to $14 CAD per day and can usually only be purchased in conjunction with CDW. CDW and theft will almost always have a deductible that you are responsible for in the event anything happens to the rental vehicle, in Denmark the amount of the deductible can range from $0 up to $1,000 CAD. Super CDW is an optional insurance that is usually offered locally to help reduce the amount of the deductible (providing there is one); it can cost about $24 CAD per day and is available with select suppliers only.

    In the event you decide to decline the CDW and theft in order to take advantage of coverage provided by your credit card Auto Europe strongly recommends contacting the card issuer to learn the specifics of your coverage and to make sure that a rental taking place in Denmark is covered.

    Rental Restrictions

    General Information
    With Auto Europe most vehicles rented in Denmark have the ability to travel throughout Western Europe without any restrictions. Some specific vehicle categories including luxury vehicles, vans and automatics may have travel restrictions due to insurance regulations. Here at Auto Europe we have worked hard to build strong relationships with all of our suppliers and because of this it has allowed for the creation of a special rental program, which will allow certain vehicles to travel into Eastern Europe. Additional surcharges may apply to rentals being taken into Eastern Europe. Some suppliers may also restrict some vehicles from traveling into Italy, if you have plans to travel into Italy please advise Auto Europe at time of booking to make sure your rental is permitted to travel there. At this time we would like to ask for you to take a moment and make sure the vehicle you intend to rent will be suitable for your travel needs.

    Rental Car Restrictions in DenmarkRestricted Countries
    Rentals originating in Denmark through Auto Europe are prohibited from traveling into the following countries: Albania, Bosnia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Turkey, the Ukraine and the African continent.

    One-Way Rentals
    International one-way rentals are available in Denmark and will always incur an additional surcharge. Domestic one-ways are also offered for an additional fee ranging from $60-$110 CAD per rental. Minimum rental lengths may apply, not all vehicles are permitted
