Food fight! La Tomatina is a crazy festival held in the Valencia region where tens of thousand of participants come from around world to fight in a battle where the only weapon is tomatoes! Starting with the unusual tradition of climbing a greased pole to claim the ham placed at the top, trucks haul in the tomatoes specially grown for this festival to the center of town. More than one hundred metric tons of over ripe tomatoes are thrown into the streets. After exactly one hour, the fighting ends and no more tomatoes can be thrown. Fire trucks then spray down the streets, leaving them cleaner than before due to acidic content of the tomatoes!

The local breed of sheepdog, the gos d'atura, is showcased in this event as a means to test their sheep herding abilities. Participating pups only have approximately 6 minutes to stop on command and lead the sheep to their shepherd, before guiding them to their pen.
