What's Happening in Germany in 2010 - 2011
Kinzig Valley Cycle Day Once a year, the roads in the Kinzig Valley are closed to automobiles and opened to cyclists. This day is intended to promote environmental awareness, and is wildly popular amongst tourists. If you forgot your bike at home, there are many local rail stations and bike shops offering rentals for the occasion.
Oktoberfest Over six million liters of beer is dispensed and enjoyed during this festival, as well as 'liquid gold', the Official Tapping of the Keg, the Parade of Oktoberfest Landlords and carnival rides for the whole family! Come enjoy the festivities!
Weimar Onion Festival With its bulbs dating back to 1653, the Zwiebelmarkt onion market is one of the oldest annual events in Europe. Today, the market is supplemented with a festival including rides and music as well as the traditional crowning of the Onion Queen.
Berlin Festival of Lights The Annual Festival of Lights will illuminate Berlin once again as its majestic monuments and attractions, such as the Reichstag and Fernsehturm, light up the night sky. In order to see all that there is to see, the city offers light-seeing tours by boat and bicycle as well as features other exciting events, such as the Nights of Open Doors and Midnight Weddings. Come be a part of the festivities and put your own message on the Brandenburg Gate this October!
Winter World Grab a warm cup of "gluhwein" or mulled wine as you head into central Berlin to welcome the Christmas season. The city looks like it belongs in the Alps, as sledding and skating are made available for visitors. A beautiful Christmas market is also available and will conjure up the spirit of the season as well as offer one stop shopping for the upcoming holidays. |
